Learn how to use exercise to improve balance difficulties, weakness, muscle spasticity and rigidity, bladder problems, gait abnormalities, and more.

Whether you have a neurological condition like MS, Parkinson’s disease, or stroke — or you work with or care for someone who does — then you probably already know that movement is a key component to recovery and disability prevention.

But what movements are most effective — and why?

To help you answer these questions and gain lasting results for yourself or your clients, Mariska Breland created Pilates for Neurological Conditions, a 4-day online training program.

You’ll learn how to:

Assess causes of balance problems

Understand and work with single-side weakness

Understand compensations and how to find the best available movement

When to stretch to manage spasticity (and when not to)

Create “detour circuitry” to work around existing nervous damage...
and a LOT more (read on!)

More about me, Mariska Breland!

When I was first diagnosed with MS in 2002, my doctors told me not to exercise.

“Don’t overdo it,” they said.

So I didn’t. Until I took a power yoga class a year later — and realized my body felt better.

I soon learned that I should have been moving my body to prevent disease progression and disability. And I made it my mission to find out what exercises are most effective for it — and why.

Then I developed this workshop to give neuro patients and the people who care for them a roadmap — one I didn’t have when I was first diagnosed.

For me, disability prevention is my life’s WHY. It is my purpose. It is my anger and it is my motivator. It is my hope that in knowing what I didn’t, others with neurological disease or the people helping them can minimize the impact a disease will have over time.

So let’s minimize that impact together — join me in Pilates for Neurological Conditions today.

This course is perfect for you if...

You want to learn the foundational principles of how to care for your neuro clients (beyond just exercise) — like how to set up your studio to accommodate them, what kinds of tools and props to have on hand, how to set up and cue movements to get maximum results for specific conditions and symptoms.

You want to design better classes for your clients with neurological conditions.

You want to better serve your neuro clients’ needs by learning more about neurological diseases and symptoms, how they relate to body movement, and what exercises are beneficial (and what should be avoided).

You want to finally feel your best — and prevent disability and slow progression in the process.

This course enabled me to better represent, encourage and develop programs for clients with neurological conditions. In the two weeks that I have been practicing and teaching the exercises and concepts learned in the course, my clients have not only raved about the approach but returned to the studio asking for more.

This course was well worth every penny. The manual is filled with so many nuggets of wisdom, but the true benefit was listening to and learning from Mariska. She makes a very complicated topic digestible and relatable to everyone and I love the fact that her delivery is through humor. I specialize in working with clients who have pelvic floor dysfunction and often times it is difficult to know whether the client has a neuro component affecting them as well. Thanks to this course, I had many “a-ha” moments and I have been able to confidently tailor my teaching. I can’t wait to take the advanced course.

As someone with virtually no prior knowledge of neurological conditions or how they affect the body and movement, this course was invaluable. It showed me what tools and techniques I already had as a Pilates Instructor, and plenty more that were completely new. If you are looking for a clear, informative and straightforward approach as to how you might help clients with neurological issues, this is the course for you.
